Day 1 Travel Day – To Africa

Your safari begins today as you board your international flight to Africa.


DAY 2 ARUSHA

Welcome to Africa! On arrival at Kilimanjaro International airport in Tanzania you will be met by our representative and transferred to the Arusha Coffee Lodge for your one night stay.

About Arusha Coffee Lodge: This inviting safari lodge radiates the warmth and style of a colonial plantation home. Well-appointed accommodations surrounded by Tanzania’s largest coffee plantation make the lodge a perfect place to relax and rejuvenate before or after your safari adventures.

Camp Type & Location: Safari lodge in Arusha, Tanzania surrounded by the country’s largest coffee plantation.

Guest Accommodations: Thirty invitingly furnished cottages are decorated in a palate of earth colors reflecting the land with split-level living areas, en-suite baths and private patios. The main plantation house features an ‘a la carte’ restaurant, intimate bar, cozy lounge (all with open log fireplaces), two boutiques, an enclosed swimming pool and a popular garden terrace.

Activities: Optional activities (some at extra cost) include coffee plantation tours, visits to the Museum of Natural History, shopping at a local Maasai market or for Tanzanite at the lodge’s Tanzanite gift shop.

DAYS 3 & 4 TARANGIRE NATIONAL PARK

After breakfast you will be met by our representative in the hotel lobby and transferred to Arusha airport for your flight to Tarangire National Park and lovely Swala Camp where you will enjoy your next two nights.

About Swala Camp: Swala Camp is located in a remote section of Tarangire National Park within a picturesque acacia woodland. Exquisitely furnished with traditional materials, the camp’s main dining area, deck and library are lifted on stilts surrounding an enormous and ancient baobab tree. A stunning infinity swimming pool overlooks a water hole which regularly draws lions, leopards and resident bull elephants.

Camp Type & Location: Permanent tented camp in Tanzania’s Tarangire National Park.

Guest Accommodations: Each of the twelve luxurious canvas pavilions is shaded by tall acacia trees and features a spacious open plan design with king or twin beds, campaign chairs, plush sofas, en suite bathroom and both indoor and outdoor showers. Each tent has its own personal attendant who will attend your every need.

Wildlife: During the June to November dry season elephant herds of up to 300 can be seen along with lions, leopards, buffalo, giraffe and a wide variety of plains game. 550 bird species have been recorded in the park.

Activities: Morning and afternoon game drives in traditional safari vehicles. Optional activities (some at extra cost) include visits to a local school, assisting with the camp’s beekeeping project and bush breakfasts, picnics and dinners.

About Tarangire National Park

Tarangire covers 1100 square miles of savannah grasslands, open acacia woodland and ancient Baobab trees in northern Tanzania. During the June to November dry season, huge numbers of animals are drawn to the Tarangire River making it one of the great wildlife destinations of Tanzania.

DAYS 5 & 6 SERENGETI NATIONAL PARK

After a morning game drive, you will be transferred to the airstrip for your light aircraft flight to Serengeti National Park and exciting Nomad Serengeti Safari Camp for your two night stay.

About Nomad Serengeti Safari Camp: Shadowing the seasonal movements of the Serengeti’s vast wildebeest migration, this intimate camp is a simple blend of form and function dedicated to world class game viewing. With your own private guide and vehicle, your days unfold exactly as you like – on all-day game drives leaving at first light and returning at dusk, or with leisurely sleep-ins and brunch in camp followed by a siesta and a gentle evening game drive – it’s all up to you.

Camp Type & Location: Mobile tented camp in Serengeti National Park.

Guest Accommodations: Just six walk-in Meru style tents each with a dressing area, en-suite bathroom, eco-flush toilets, safari-style bucket showers and jugs of hot and cold water delivered whenever you want them.

Activities: Morning and afternoon game drives with a private guide and private 4wd safari vehicle.

Wildlife: Expect to see huge herds of wildebeest, zebra and gazelle along with the Serengeti’s extraordinary variety resident game including elephant, giraffe, buffalo, leopard, impala, topi, eland, hippo, crocodile, warthog, cheetah, leopard and Africa’s largest lion population. Over 400 bird species have been identified in the park.

About Serengeti National Park

Serengeti is Africa’s most famous national park. It covers 5700 square miles in northwestern Tanzania stretching all the way to the Kenya border. Its vast grassland plains and acacia woodlands are home to the annual Great Migration where over a million wildebeest and hundreds of thousands of zebra and gazelle move throughout the year in search of fresh grazing.

DAYS 7 NAIROBI

After your morning game drive, you will transferred to the local airstrip to connect with you light aircraft flight back to Kilimanjaro airport where you will connect with your flight to Nairobi, Kenya. On arrival in Nairobi, you will be met and transferred to Giraffe Manor where you will enjoy the evening.

About Giraffe Manor: This luxury boutique hotel was built in the 1930s and has maintained all its colonial era charm. It is now famous for its resident herd of endangered Rothschild giraffe and the manor offers unparalleled opportunities to interact them as they vie for your attention at breakfast, the front door and even at your bedroom window!

Camp Type & Location: Giraffe Manor is set in 140 acres of indigenous forest just 12 miles from Nairobi’s city center.

Guest Accommodations: Inspired by the manor’s original 1930’s decor, its six double bedrooms feature large four poster beds, antique furnishing, striking art decor and spacious, en-suite bathrooms.

Activities: Just a short drive away is Giraffe Centre, a breeding center for the endangered Rothschild Giraffe that also operates conservation and educational programs for Kenyan school children. Other nearby attractions include the Karen Blixen Museum, the Daphne Sheldrick Elephant Orphanage, Kenya National Museum and shopping at the Maasai Market and at designer shops like the Anna Trezbinski and Penny Winter studios.

Wildlife: Along with its giraffes, the manor is also home to warthogs, bushbuck, dik dik and more than 180 species of birds.

DAYS 8, 9, 10 LAIKIPIA PLATEAU

After breakfast with the giraffes, you will be transferred back to Wilson Airport where you will connect with your scheduled flight to Loisaba where you will be met on arrival and transferred to Ol Malo Lodge for your three night stay.

About Ol Malo: Ol Malo Lodge is set in a private 5000 acre game sanctuary in Kenya’s wild and beautiful Laikipia Plateau. Local materials where sculpted into a warm and hospitable setting among the curves of rocky cliffs surveying the stunning game country around the lodge. Comfortable sitting and dining areas provide shady retreats from the sun and open fireplaces warmth on cooler evenings. Smooth lawns and carefully tended shrubs sweep down to the cliff edge and an infinity pool adds to the beauty as well as a cool respite from the heat of the day.

Camp Type & Location: Boutique safari lodge located on Kenya’s Laikipia Plateau

Guest Accommodations: Four beautifully designed en-suite cottages each with private verandas and large picture windows. Hippo cottage is ideal for small families; Crocodile cottage is ideal for honeymooners; and the three spacious, individually designed double rooms in the main lodge each have their own theme and design. Ol Malo House has its own six en-suite rooms that can comfortably sleep 15 people and is perfect for groups and family gatherings.

Activities: Morning and afternoon game drives in open safari vehicle, bush walks, cultural visits, a night in the leopard blind and camping under the stars.

Wildlife: Elephant, buffalo, lion, leopard, cheetah, giraffe, eland, oryx, gazelle, impala, common and Grevy’s zebra, gerenuk, greater kudu, warthog, wild dog, spotted and striped hyena.

About the Laikipia

The Laikipia Plateau is located in north central Kenya and is part of the eastern escarpment of the Great Rift Valley. The area is wonderfully scenic with the escarpment’s dry plains giving way to dramatic wooded gorges and tangled riverine thickets. Many of the area’s huge ranches have been converted back to wildlife giving Laikipia on of the highest wildlife densities in Kenya. All of Africa’s Big Five – elephant, rhino, buffalo, lion and leopard – can be seen plus special arid land species like oryx, Grevy’s zebra and gerenuk.

DAYS 11, 12, 13 MAASAI MARA GAME RESERVE

This morning you will transfer to a local airstrip for your light aircraft flight to the Maasai Mara Game Reserve and Olanana Tented Camp, where you will spend your final three nights on safari.

About Olanana Tented Camp: A small, exclusive tented camp set on a private stretch of the Mara River, Olonana’s main dining area and veranda command dramatic views of the river. The camp features a library, pool, organic garden where much of the food served in camp is grown and a mini-spa where you can experience traditional African therapies.

Camp Type & Location: Permanent tented camp on the Mara River just north of the Maasai Mara Game Reserve.

Guest Accommodations: Fourteen spacious tents with parquet floors, four-poster beds and private verandahs overlooking the Mara River.

Activities: Morning and afternoon game drives in traditional safari vehicles. Optional activities (extra cost) include hot air balloon safaris and flying excursions.

Wildlife: Expect to see elephants, lions, leopards, buffalo, giraffe, cheetah and a huge variety of plains game. Plus the Mara is the stage for the greatest wildlife show on Earth – the annual migration of over 1 million wildebeest, zebra and gazelle. From July to October grunting herds can cover the plains, sometimes crossing the Mara River near camp attended by crocodiles and lions.

About Maasai Mara Game Reserve

The Maasai Mara is one of the most famous reserves in the whole of Africa. Its ‘big skies’, rolling savannahs and riverine woodlands, annual migration of millions of wildebeest, the sheer density of other game and predators and the tall red-robed Maasai people all combine to work its unforgettable magic.

Day 14 Your Journey Ends

This morning you will be transferred to a local airstrip where you will bid farewell to the Mara and board you light aircraft flight back to Nairobi. On arrival in Nairobi, you will be met by our representative who will transfer you to Jomo Kenyatta International Airport for your flight back to the USA.
